From the refinery, crude oil to distilled, pyrolysis, synthetic and converted into many different petroleum and petrochemical products during which a large amount of energy is consumed. Antifoulant or anticorrosion chemicals added to the process steams help reduce the buildup of insulating deposits and reduce equipment renewal thereby improving heat transfer, conserving fuel and saving money for the refiner.
Crude oil entering the refinery also contains water and salt. Desalting chemicals can make removal of these contaminants easier and more complete. This reduces fouling and the amount of energy needed to vaporize the water. Output is increased and fuel requirements are lower per unit of production.
